Outer Root Sheath

Matthew (PHH)

The Outer Root Sheath is the part of a hair follicle that encloses both the inner root sheath and the hair shaft. It is a key area of interest for hair loss researchers, mainly because the outer root sheath is believed to produce 5-alpha reductase and is thereby a target location for 5-alpha reductase-inhibiting drugs such as finasteride or dutasteride.
