Choline is an essential nutrient that is naturally present in some foods. Choline is required by the brain and nervous system to regulate memory, mood, muscle control, and other functions. Choline is added to many dietary supplements including at least one targeted toward hair health.
- One metabolite of choline is called phosphatidylcholine which has some in vivo (in mice) evidence to suggest that alongside other phospholipids, application leads to an increase in hair growth. However this was not found to be as effective as minoxidil nor has it been completed in humans. Furthermore as phosphatidylcholine was part of a cocktail of phospholipids it’s not known exactly what role choline had to play in the enhancement of hair growth
- It’s also suggested that choline also enhances the bioavailability of silica which may subsequently help to improve hair health.
- Our experience tracking members: choline by itself is not enough to improve hair loss outcomes
