Name Ingredients:
Burdock root – also known as Arctium Lappa – is a plant native to Europe and Asia. It is used holistically for its purported diuretic, antipyretic, and anti-hypertensive properties. Recently, companies have started including burdock root extract in hair loss products.
Key insights:
- Studies conducted in vitro suggests components of burdock root extract might protect against aspects of hair loss. However, these findings have never been investigated in vivo (i.e., in humans with hair loss).
- Burdock root contains a ligand called arctiin – which in vitro studies suggest protects against reactive oxygen species-induced senescence in human hair follicles. It also contains beta-sitosterol, a plant polyphenol with potential DHT-reducing properties.
- Our experience tracking members: by itself, burdock root is not enough to improve hair loss outcomes.
