Name Ingredients:
Lactobacillus salivarius is a probiotic bacteria naturally found in the gut. It is commonly added to yogurts and fermentation mixtures for its benefits for gut health, but it is also being studied for its potential to promote healthy hair.
Key insights:
- An in vitro study showed that L.salivarius modulates cytokine release, a response that is key in alopecia areata, meaning it may have potential benefits. Another study showed the antibacterial effects of L.salivarius which could help to prevent issues associated with bacterial growth on the scalp (e.g., itchiness, damaged follicles, and hair loss).
- There does not appear to be any in vivo or clinical evidence suggesting that L.salivarius is beneficial for hair health.
- Our experience tracking members: L.salivarius is not enough to improve hair growth outcomes.
