Phenoxyethanol

Rob (PHH)

Name Ingredients:

Phenoxyethanol is a colorless, oily liquid that gives off a pleasant odor. It is commonly used as a preservative, being added to products such as shampoo, soap and perfume. Phenoxyethanol functions as an antimicrobial, preventing the growth of bacteria, fungi, and yeast within cosmetic products, thus extending their shelf life.

Key insights:

  • Although antimicrobial activity might be beneficial to hair health, there are no studies that provide such evidence, and that is not the purpose of adding Phenoxyethanol to hair loss products.
  • Phenoxyethanol can induce a burning and itching sensation on the face and, therefore, may also cause some reactions to the scalp, so it may not be beneficial for those with sensitive scalps.
