Creatine

Rob (PHH)

Name Ingredients:

Creatine is a substance produced inside the body and consumed from meat and fish. It can help create energy in muscles during high-volume exercise. It is widely thought that creatine contributes to hair loss; however, depending on your hair loss type, it might actually help.

Key insights:

  • There is no in vitro or in vivo evidence to suggest that creatine improves hair loss outcomes.
  • Creatine can indirectly influence hormones through several mechanisms, including enhanced exercise performance and improved muscle mass, which contribute to increased testosterone, and reduced cortisol, which indirectly supports testosterone production.
  • One study conducted in college-aged rugby players found that creatine loading led to increased DHT, which might lead to increased hair loss (although this wasn’t measured in the study)
  • Another study used a creatine-containing lotion to significantly improve hair growth outcomes in women with telogen effluvium. However, the product also contained other ingredients that might be beneficial for hair regrowth.
  • Our experience tracking members, creatine is not enough by itself to improve hair loss outcomes.
